How should you spend six days in Kashmir?

For a first visit, build your six-day Kashmir itinerary around Srinagar, Pahalgam and Gulmarg. Our suggested split is two nights in Srinagar, two in Pahalgam and a final night back in Srinagar, with Gulmarg as a day trip. It keeps your departure day simpler and gives Pahalgam more than a quick stop.

You can fit more names on the itinerary. Whether you should is a different question. If every morning begins with checkout and every evening ends at a new reception desk, a lot of your holiday disappears into transfers. Start with the places you most want to spend time in, then decide what can wait.

Days 1 and 2: settle into Srinagar

Keep arrival day light. Check in, eat and decide whether you have the energy for time by Dal Lake. Don't pay for a tightly timed activity immediately after your scheduled landing; a delayed flight can undo the whole afternoon.

Use the second day for Srinagar itself. Choose a garden visit and some lake time, or give more of the day to the old city. You don't need to combine every version of Srinagar in one outing. Discuss the actual route with your driver before leaving, especially if somebody in your group needs regular breaks.

Days 3 and 4: stay in Pahalgam

Travel to Pahalgam on day three and keep the rest of the afternoon flexible. Two nights give you one day without packing your bags. That is the main reason for this stop, rather than any promise that you can cover a fixed list of attractions.

Confirm local transport arrangements and any separate charges in writing; a package vehicle does not automatically mean every excursion is included.

Day 5: Gulmarg, then Srinagar

Make Gulmarg the main outing and return to Srinagar for your final night. Ask for the proposed pickup time and the likely total driving commitment before agreeing to this day. If the transfer feels too long for your group, swap the order of your stays or add a night.

Day 6, and the question of Sonmarg

Leave departure day for breakfast, packing and the airport transfer. Work backwards from the airline’s reporting requirements and the local road situation. A last-minute sightseeing detour is rarely worth a rushed departure.

Sonmarg is the obvious extra, but adding it to this route usually means giving something else less time. If it matters more to you than Gulmarg, swap the day trip. If you want both, ask for a longer trip rather than assuming an extra full excursion will fit around arrival or departure.

What to ask for in your quote

Request named hotels, room categories, meal plans, overnight locations and a list of activities charged separately. Ask who will handle a missed activity if weather changes the schedule. These details make two quotes comparable in a way that a single starting price cannot.
