Pahalgam
Pahalgam is a mountain town on the Lidder river, about 95 km and three hours from Srinagar. In winter it's quieter than Gulmarg: snow on the pines, the river running between white banks, and local taxis out to Betaab Valley and Aru, which usually stay open.

- The road from Srinagar is kept open through winter; on snow days, cars need chains.
- Betaab Valley usually stays open all winter. Aru is open too, but heavy snow can close its road for a few days.
- Trips from Pahalgam to Betaab and Aru run on Pahalgam's own union taxis, at fixed rates per vehicle.
- Some spots, including Baisaran and Chandanwari, have been closed to visitors by official order. Ask us what's open for your dates.
